A Magical Disney Cruise Experience

There’s a certain element of magic, when it comes to cruising the Mediterranean on a magical Disney cruise experience; from Santorini to Monte-Carlo and Sardinia to Dubrovnik, the jewels of the Med are endless. With so much to do and see, you’ll be sure to enjoy la dolce vita (‘the good life’) both on and off shore.

So imagine just how magical your holiday could truly be when you set sail with Disney Cruise Line? The cruise line that brings Disney to life and where there is magic appearing around every corner. You’ll see Mickey Mouse roaming the halls, Peter Pan on the staircase, and if you’re lucky enough, Donald Duck will do the potty dance with your little one.

And then there is the food. Oh my goodness, the food! From Mickey bars to chocolate soufflés, and Pinocchio’s pizzas to the Enchanted Garden that is inspired by the gardens of Versailles, they have it all and you’ll be able to eat to your heart’s content.

But perhaps what is the most magical of all is that you get the opportunity to entirely unplug from the outside world and spend time making memories with your family. Or if you choose, you can leave the small sailors in the Oceaneer Club or Lab so that the adults can take full advantage of all the amazing activities.

Think a Disney Cruise is just for families with kids? Think again! Even without kids, you’ll absolutely fall in love with this cruise line. The food, spa, amenities and entertainment on the Disney Dream are just as good, if not better, than any other cruise line. Whilst Disney cruises do cater for children far better than any other cruise line, and there’ll be plenty of kids on the cruise, there is something for everyone and can certainly make for a fun trip with your girl friends or significant other.

DISNEY CRUISES IN 2018

In 2018, Disney Cruise Line is excited to introduce a wide variety of sailings, including new ports and expanded itineraries, to captivating Europe, majestic Alaska, the dreamy Caribbean and the blissful Bahamas.

New ports of call will now be located in Genoa (Milan), Italy, and Cork in Ireland. They have also introduced two 7-night sails between Rome and Barcelona, and for the first time Rome is offered as a departure port, allowing more flexibility to explore this amazing destination.

If the majesty of North America takes your fancy, there’s a variety of 5-, 7- and 9-night cruises through wild and wonderful Alaska. There’s also an 11-night cruise sailing through the southern Caribbean. And by popular demand, they have also added more itineraries featuring 2 stops to Disney’s exclusive private island, Castaway Cay in the Bahamas.

Quiet Cove Pool for guests 18 years or older looking for a more peaceful swimming experience. A fully-equipped fitness centre, home to weight machines, cardio equipment and numerous exercise classes. And an open-air sports deck featuring basketball courts, virtual sports simulators, and on selected ships, miniature golf.

Disney’s Private Island

Yep, they have their own private island. Castaway Island is a port of call on many Bahamian and Caribbean itineraries and offers a fun day for cruise guests. On the island you can expect: a buffet style BBQ lunch, coffee, tea and soda, all you can eat ice cream, a family beach and an adults only beach, beach chairs, umbrellas, hammocks, beach towels, island entertainment, clubs for kids and teens, hiking trails, beach sports, yoga classes, a splash zone, waterslides, tram transportation and a 5km race with a finisher medal. Seriously, this place has it all.

WHAT TO PACK

When it comes to on-board activities, there are more things to do than you can possibly imagine, but here’s a few things you’ll want to take with you to make sure you don’t miss out:

  1. Door Magnets

Yes, you read that right. Cabin doors on Disney cruises are a work of art. Guests decorate their doors with all kinds of décor, including magnets with their names and their favourite characters on them. Grab some Disney magnets or order some custom made ones before you depart.

  1. Pirate Costume

Pirate night is one of the big party nights on the cruise. Disney will provide you with bandanas in your room, but if you want to look the part even more, hit the $2 store prior to boarding.

  1. A refillable water bottle

Disney cruises provide free unlimited soft drinks and you will find the drink machines everywhere on board. The problem is the cups are small and require you to make many trips. Take your own refillable drink bottles so you can pour yourself a larger drink each time.

  1. Glow Sticks

These bright and colourful sticks can be helpful to locate your family and friends at the evening deck parties. Waving these in the air can help you locate each other while also making the evening a little more fun (and bright) for the kids.

  1. Princess costumes

To save yourself some money, it’s best to bring your own princess costume if you plan on visiting the Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique, or just want to get fancy at dinner time. Expect to pay upwards of $75 on-board if your little one wants a costume that you don’t have.

  1. A night light

The cabins at night can become a little dark, particularly for the little ones. So take a night light to plug into the many outlets to add a little glow to the cabin.

  1. An autograph book

Take a small notebook for characters and cast members to sign. It’s a great souvenir for kids to keep and also for you to keep the contact details of new friends you meet on the trip.

  1. Your own plush

Take your own Disney plush with you because when you do, the staff member who cleans your room will do funny things with it, like dress it up or put it in funny places. Of course, they are available on board, but you’ll pay a premium for them.

And a few things not to pack because Disney has you covered: pram or stroller, and beach towels.

WORTH EVERY CENT

Disney Cruise Lines are certainly an entertainment destination on water – from the child-friendly accommodations, to the child-appropriate roving entertainment, to the kids-club that will have your kids begging to go back in the middle of their dinner – a Disney cruise is well worth investing in for your family and you’ll be talking about it for years to come.
